Coca-Cola Kazakhstan and GPI Lab Win the EUROBAK Award 2025 with their Smart Plastic Zone Project
Almaty, October 17, 2025 — The European Business Association of Kazakhstan (EUROBAK) held its annual EUROBAK Award 2025 ceremony.
At the EUROBAK Award 2025 ceremony, the European Business Association of Kazakhstan recognized the best corporate initiatives that are transforming the country’s social and environmental environment. The winner in the environmental category was Smart Plastic Zone, a joint project between Coca-Cola Kazakhstan and GPI Lab aimed at reducing the plastic footprint and creating a culture of responsible consumption in the business community.
Smart Plastic Zone is the first initiative in Kazakhstan that helps companies systematically reduce single-use plastic, implement waste sorting, and transition to alternative materials. The project offers companies not only an assessment methodology and recommendations, but also the “Silver,” “Gold,” and “Platinum” brand recognition marks, which confirm their tangible contribution to sustainable development.
“For us, the EUROBAK award is an indication that sustainable projects are becoming part of the business agenda in Kazakhstan. Together with our partners, we want to demonstrate that environmental stewardship can be systemic, measurable, and accessible to any business,” Coca-Cola Kazakhstan noted.

Since its launch in March 2025, 53 organizations across the country have joined Smart Plastic Zone—from hotels and offices to universities, banks, and manufacturing facilities. The project is expanding across five regions of Kazakhstan and is preparing to enter the markets of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
“We’ve created a platform that helps businesses not only reduce their plastic use but also become part of a community that is changing consumer culture. The EUROBAK Award is recognition that this approach is important and in demand,” emphasizes Yulia Yakupbaeva, GPI Partner.
The project was recognized by an independent jury for its innovative approach: Smart Plastic Zone creates real geographic “plastic reduction zones” that allow for progress tracking across cities and sectors. Participants receive personalized reports, recommendations, training materials, and the opportunity to openly share their environmental initiatives through media and professional platforms.
Smart Plastic Zone’s victory at the EUROBAK Award 2025 underscores the active role businesses in Kazakhstan play in environmental transformation. The GPI Lab and Coca-Cola Kazakhstan initiative has become an example of how partnership, transparency, and practical solutions can create real change—from production sites and offices to educational institutions.
