Eco-Picnic with ‘Koktem’ and Smart Plastic Zone: Less Plastic — More Meaning.

Astana, July 6–7, 2025 — This past weekend, a two-day eco-picnic was held in the capital, organized by Café Koktem with the participation of partners Et-Et, Peec-a-boo, and the Green Urban Association — the operator of the Smart Plastic Zone project. The event brought together everyone striving for an eco-friendly and conscious lifestyle.

From the Green Urban Association, Dalila Elzhanova and Rozlana Kozhakhmetova, as eco-partners within the Smart Plastic Zone project, presented an information stand where they told visitors:

• about the goals of the project, aimed at reducing the plastic footprint in Kazakhstan;

• about opportunities to join the initiative and make a personal contribution to the country’s sustainable future;

• and about the importance of supporting companies and organizations that have already undergone verification and received the Smart Plastic Zone distinction — as examples of environmentally responsible approaches.

“Today it is important not only to sort waste, but also to support businesses that consciously reduce their plastic footprint. The Smart Plastic Zone project helps to find and recognize such companies. We invite everyone — both businesses and consumers — to become part of this initiative,” noted representatives of the Green Urban Association.

Visitors received informational materials and live inspiration from the examples of real project participants. As part of the picnic, waste sorting stations and tastings of dishes from partner cafés were also organized.
