GPI-Lab held a Strategic ESG session for Zaman School

The strategic session was held in the format of an ESG training with elements of facilitation and an ESG game. The event brought together representatives of the School’s key stakeholders, including shareholders, teachers, supervisors, students and parents, creating a unique platform for open dialogue and joint search for solutions for the School to develop its Strategy in the field of sustainable development

Main results of the Strategic Session
During the session, the participants made an important decision to prepare the first Zaman School Sustainability Report for 2024. This Report will be created in accordance with the GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) international standards for Sustainable Development and will form the basis for the School’s further steps towards sustainability.
The participants also agreed on priority Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and identified significant themes for the School.

ESG game format
One of the key highlights of the event was an interactive author’s ESG game, patented by GPI-Lab in 2022. As part of the game, the participants were divided into teams, each of which developed a Sustainable Development Strategy for a specific economic entity chosen by the Team.

Significance of the event
The Strategic Session and the ESG Game were an important step for Zaman School towards understanding and integrating the principles of sustainable development as a necessary component of the School’s transformation project “Zhasyl mektep” (Green School). Involving a wide range of stakeholders in the discussion and decision-making process has increased the sense of responsibility and engagement among all participants.

The academic director of the School, Tlektes Tleulina, noted: “Our School’s slogan, ‘Learning and Developing together for a better world,’ more accurately reflects the spirit of our Strategic ESG Session than ever before. The event not only allowed us to come together to discuss important issues of sustainable development, but also became a great opportunity for a reboot: staff, students and representatives of the parent committee enjoyed playing and getting charged with new ideas for the future!”

Yulia Yakupbaeva, Director of GPI-Lab, noted: “We are pleased that educational institutions in Kazakhstan have started working in the field of sustainable development, and Zaman School has taken a decisive step by starting to develop a Sustainability Report.”

GPI-Lab will continue to provide methodological support to the School at all stages of preparing the Report and implementing strategic initiatives.
