GPI experts participated in the international Cities in Action conference, which was held on February 6-7, 2025 at Expo City Dubai. The conference brought together leading experts, representatives of governments, businesses and innovative companies to discuss key issues of sustainable development, urbanism, technological innovation and improving the quality of life in the cities of the future.
Among the key speakers were:
The UAE Minister for International Cooperation, as well as the CEO of Expo City Dubai, stressed that 2025 has been declared the Year of Community in the UAE, which indicates a priority attention to creating comfortable, inclusive and sustainable cities. The conference discussed advanced solutions and mechanisms aimed at developing cities adapted to the needs of people, as well as economic and technological opportunities for their implementation.
One of the key issues was the development of the MEASA region and the lack of financing from developing countries to implement sustainable strategies. The role of large investors such as the UAE and Saudi Arabia in supporting sustainable projects was discussed, as well as the importance of internal reforms to create an enabling environment. The experience of Morocco was cited as a successful example, where a high level of sustainable development has been achieved thanks to the support of start-ups.
Considerable attention was paid to technological innovations focused on the convenience and needs of residents. Issues of digital transformation, big data analysis, and blockchain solutions in urban governance were discussed. In this context, a number of digital platforms and solutions were presented that provide in-depth data analysis for social and economic improvements in cities.
As part of the discussions on sustainable construction and energy conservation, best practices and challenges in implementing green initiatives were revealed. Experts noted that current renewable energy sources cover only 35% of demand, while urban growth requires an integrated approach to the design of buildings capable of generating their own energy. The long-term benefits of eco-friendly construction, its impact on the investment attractiveness of real estate and the attraction of international companies were also discussed.
At the same time, the World Green Building Council develops Scorecards with the best practices of green construction. The UAE has adopted a state roadmap that provides for a 75% reduction in emissions from buildings by 2045. The map’s events encourage UAE developers to adopt green building standards
Expo City Dubai presented examples of the implementation of inclusive spaces, which have become a key requirement for international tenants. The forum participants emphasized that the creation of affordable and comfortable urban environments plays an important role in economic growth and attracting investment.
During the conference, GPI experts established important business contacts, including meetings with representatives of Expo City Dubai, developers of technological solutions, as well as key leaders in the field of sustainable construction.
The Cities in Action conference showed that the future of cities lies in the integration of technology, sustainable investments and the creation of inclusive spaces.
