Sustainable Technologies for Cities: Joint Meeting of Green Urban, IT CEO CLUB, and TechnoWomen

The Green Urban platform once again brought together experts to discuss the current agenda for creating a comfortable urban environment. The event was moderated by Yuliya Yakupbayeva, Green Urban and Partner at GPI Group.

“Green Urban continues its series of professional discussions on improving quality of life in cities. We decided to dedicate the first Urban Talk of the year to sustainable technologies. Thank you to our colleagues from TechnoWomen and IT CEO CLUB for supporting this idea organizationally and as experts,” noted the Chairperson of Green Urban.

Speakers presented a number of innovative projects aimed at addressing current challenges in sustainable urban development, with an emphasis on the importance of integrating the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into each proposed solution.

  • Vitaly Pustovoitenko presented the Nomad Analytics platform, a satellite monitoring tool for detecting fires and sustainably managing natural resources. This technology opens up new opportunities for preventing environmental disasters and optimizing the use of natural resources.
  • Bekesh Kurmangaliyeva spoke about a product labeling and traceability project that promotes supply chain transparency and helps combat the illegal circulation of goods.
  • Dinara Zhusupova emphasized the importance of cloud-based document management for sustainable development, demonstrating how process digitalization can support compliance with sustainability principles.
  • Assem Tazhiyeva spoke about the Ozim mobile application, created to support parents of young children and children with special needs. This application is an example of how technology can improve the quality of life for the most vulnerable groups of the population.
  • Galiya Uali presented the AI.LFNTIS platform, aimed at protecting marine ecosystems with the help of artificial intelligence. This project highlights the importance of AI technologies in addressing global environmental challenges.

Expert commentary on the development of sustainable IT products was given by Rustam Yakupbayev, Chairman of the ESG Committee at IT CEO CLUB and Managing Partner at GPI Group:

“When carrying out ESG transformation within companies, it is very important to implement sustainable IT technologies. At the same time, in order to prove the sustainability of an IT technology, it is necessary to demonstrate which Sustainable Development Goals it helps to achieve”.

Discussion participants concluded that the five IT solutions presented at Urban Talk alone contribute to 11 of the 17 SDGs:

— SDG 12 — Responsible Consumption and Production,

— SDG 3 — Good Health and Well-Being,

— SDG 11 — Sustainable Cities and Communities,

— SDG 6 — Clean Water and Sanitation,

— SDG 14 — Life Below Water,

— SDG 13 — Climate Action,

— SDG 8 — Decent Work and Economic Growth,

— SDG 10 — Reduced Inequality,

— SDG 4 — Quality Education,

— SDG 15 — Life on Land,

— SDG 17 — Partnerships for the Goals.

“I propose that, as part of implementing the ESG agenda, we gather pain points by sector and hold hackathons involving established organizations such as IT CEO Club and universities, in order to develop practical measures for implementation in the field of sustainable development. We should also engage relevant ministries and the new Cabinet of Ministers in solving these pain points,” noted Aziza Shuzheyeva, Chairperson of the Management Board of TechnoWomen.

Participants and speakers at the meeting decided to establish a Registry of Sustainable Technologies and to hold a series of hackathons involving interested parties. These steps are aimed at popularizing and scaling effective solutions in the field of sustainable urban development. It is expected that the practical measures of the three communities (Green Urban, IT CEO CLUB, and TechnoWomen) will help strengthen cooperation between technology developers, the business community, and government structures.
